A strange day for the UK. A sad day. A much respected leader and a great character. End of one era and start of another. Personally I feel Charles should be given a chance and the same respect. He was championing causes 50 years ago and was ridiculed for it, causes that are now main stream like climate change, environmental issues, local sustainable farming.

It was being reported several hours ago that all close Royal Family were flown up as an emergency to Balmorel. And the news broadcasters all started wearing black so think we all knew an announcement was imminent.

RIP - an incredible woman, an incredible reign and a good age.

The UK is certainly being rocked by one event after another - Brexit, Covid, various changes in PM's, death of Prince Philip only last year, massive inflation and energy crisis and massive cost of living crisis, a new PM just a couple of days ago and now this. :(

I couldn't have put it better than this. London actually does feel very subdued at the moment. She represented a real link to a time when norms and values were broadly shared, and as you say this feels like the end of an era; there's a real sense of finality.

I'm glad she didn't suffer, and amazed that she was able to carry on her duties until the last day.
