Like some song, nothing civil about a war. Can't believe it was viewed with romanticism among the upper crust. Maybe because they weren't the ones dying by millions. I prefer to smoke in peace. But would love to see Biden and Putin going at each other with dull spoons. Not political, just blood sport without unnecessary blood. Their blood don't count.

Idk I'm stilled pissed off I can't get any Syrian latakia. Don't see how that should have anything to with a war. Seems to be a theme with pipes and tobacco. See Algerian briar and the war...

War...what a nasty word!

So I guess Latakia vs Virginia...lol. :D

Stupidity, like most civil wars.

Fortunately over the past decade a lot of superstitions, like Dunhills being the best pipes ever made, have fallen by the wayside. We smoke in a more enlightened community. Even water flushing has gained adherents as more and more people discovered that their pipes didn't grow branches and leaves as a result.

True, the cob contingent can be as adamant as ever that the cob, favored implement in outhouses all across the world, is superior to any other form of smoking implement. But we also have a greater sympathy for their mental affliction and rather than fire barbs at them, we're more likely to offer them a nice shiny pebble to play with.

We don't make fun of goopers like we used to and we no longer see C&D as the worst brand available, though sometimes it's the only brand available. Esoterica is no longer the parnassus of the tobacco world, just an interesting, if hard to find, option.

Yes, there are people who would sell their children's organs for a Danish high grade, but at least they will think about it for 30 seconds instead of simply sending Junior to the abattoir without a second thought.

Progress is incremental, but it is still progress.
Yep, well said!

If a civil war were to break out among the Pipe Smoking Community, what would be the cause?
English vs Balkan?
Briar vs Cob vs Meerschaum?
Water Flush vs Salt soak?
Smooth vs Sandblasted?
Inhale vs retrohale vs french inhale vs sissies?

I understand aros can be controversial as well, but lets be honest... No aro-only smoker can throw a punch anyway. nnnn

For me? I may be willing to shed blood just to never hear of another lover or collector of those abhorrent abominations known as Falcon Pipes.
Would Meers win the naval battles ?

The pipe smoking population is too small to have a civil war. Maybe a domestic disturbance between people who build cake and those who don't. The cake contingent would win because they have more people, so the non-cake-builders would have to do the dishes.

Then everyone would settle down to smoke their separate favorite blends. The neighbors would complain because the crowd didn't make any noise at all. Very suspicious.

Dilettantes vs. Addicts.
At an average of 4 bowls per week, my feet are firmly in the former camp ?

As a corollary, after 50 years of enjoying wine, I see myself strictly as an avid amateur of wine.
The term "professional" being reserved for those who work with, and in wine ie winemakers, grape growers, wine retailers&marketers, wine writers and sommeliers.

I saw the unrest coming in Syria and bought up a lot of their tobacco. The tins look great in my cellar. I'm still afraid to pop one open in fear of being without.
