Good post, Knowing myself if it wasn't piped in all probability I'd been keeping on smoking cigarettes/cigarillos,I suspect and confess over the years of smoking (I started at 13 If my memory serves right)somehow I have become addicted to nicotine
Several reasons for me I suppose. Certainly because I can, but relaxing it is, variety of tobacco for sure, love getting a new pipe (especially an older estate pipe), and my monthly pipe club meeting is always a highlight.
That is literally the main thing nicotine does. It's like a lube or oil for brain and nerve function. It's pretty well documented. Including what's called gateing. Which is something people with schizophrenia don't do. It's the process where your brain starts not reacting to a stimuli after it proves a non issue. Example they're doing construction in your building and you jump the first time you hear hammering, because your brain says it doesn't mean much. Well schizophrenics don't do that unless they're on nicotine. In other words that's one example of of how the substance works and what it does for getting the brain to run properly.
I smoke because I like it... I like the way it relaxes me. I like the way it helps me think and solve problems. I like the way I get a nic fix out of it (former cig smoker). I like trying new and sometimes exotic flavors. I like the social aspect of it because everytime I smoke in public, friends and strangers alike approach me to tell me they like the smell and/or tell a story of a family member that used to smoke or the time they tried it back in college. Sometimes(more often than I ever thought) cute girls get all up in my face asking to take a puff or sniff the tin... So all in all, I smoke because I like it, but I like it for all of the reasons you discount in the original post.
