Can't say I ever had one get away. I haven't been so intrigued with one specific pipe that I had to bid a crazy price or over pay for one at a shop. Seen lots of great pipes that I'd love to own, but never anyone special pipe that I needed to have.

I own a meer that I watched on ebay for about 8 months or so, and sent in a price and the seller took it. It's my Lion & Claw Tekin meer. One of my favorite pipes, and even better that I got it at a steal of a price.

A wonderful Harrod's straight grained 7 day etc. Most likely carved by Charatan. Won it on Feebay for a song and then it got nicked by Pitney Bowes. Total shambles and sadness.

I would truly be upset if that happened to me.
The fact that so many have complained of a similar experience only makes me think it is an absolute scam
