One of the great benefits of being a member of this site is that we have a tendency to look out for one another. So when Bradley saw the two cheap bamboo shanked pipes I got he was concerned for my health. One pipe was a homemade (not artisanal) pipe and the other a Chinese pipe. To save me from possible toxins in them, he sent me a great pair of bamboo shanked pipes that were not only beautiful, but were known makes and safe to smoke. They only needed a light cleaning and I was good to go!
One was a meerschaum made by Strambach of Austria, a nice little billiard that has a permanently mounted stem, but the bamboo shank has a delrin tenon that push fits into the bowl, making it rather easy to clean. Smoked some SG Firedance Flake in it last night, and it was a great smoking pipe with an easy draw.
The other was a beautiful Viggo Nielsen with flawless briar on a bamboo shank fit with an interesting stem. I'll be smoking it today with a tobacco yet to be decided.
Bradley is one of many generous members here, he always posts interesting views, and never seems to be drawn into controversial threads that seem to serve little purpose. So my hat's off to you, a fellow southern gentleman!
