I was not a fan of Natalie Cole’s cobbled together hit duet with her long dead father in 1991—the sentiment of a daughter singing together “with” her father was poignant, but felt a bit opportunistic and kind of like grave robbery for a calculated buck. This “new” Beatles song reminds me of this, but after watching the short film about the song, I’m almost willing to give it a pass after hearing Paul talk about the technology and how it was something the Beatles would have embraced, and how all four members were on the recording. My biggest issue, however, is the finished song sounds unremarkable, uninspired, and dull—the few bits I heard of the original cassette of John singing while playing piano, and of John’s isolated vocal sounded more interesting and less bland than the final result.

I love the Beatles, but—eh.

I think the Nat and Natalie Cole hit started a trend of posthumous duets. In most cases the younger singer paled by comparison to the original. Nevertheless, when Natalie Cole died a few years ago, the memory of her duet with her father made her passing all the more poignant.

Lacks the magic and surprises of many of John's melodies, and for a downbeat song it lingers a little too long,, but if John had lived to finish it, it would be seriously better. I understand he reworked most of his songs many times. But very interesting. I wanted to hear this to see how it was.

You know it’s not half bad.I enjoyed it.
+1 ... I had low expectations, which probably helped...but upon first listen, I liked it more than I thought I would.

PS: I read a blurb about this song a few months ago, and it gave the impression that they were going to use "AI" to artificially create John's voice. If that had been the case I wouldn't have even wanted to listen to it at all, but fortunately that was completely wrong, since it's from an actual demo he recorded.

Great story, but kind of average-ish post-Beatles John and although the members added tracks I wouldn't put in in the category of a "Beatles" song, even though ironically the process isn't all that far removed from some of what happened at the end.

Bittersweet watching the vid and listening to the song - enjoyed hearing his voice but more in a nostalgic way. I'll grab a Lennon CD and take it to work this morning.

Listening to it right now for the second time. Fine song, but for me it is in some weird uncanny valley place where aside from the vocals, it doesn't sound anything like the Beatles.
There's something about the production that reflects the time and place of the recordings that is lost in this new version, and the generic sheen is off-putting to me.

I don’t know if I like the melody and it seems too busy but it neat to hear something different but it definitely lacks the magic for me. It seems more like a later solo attempt by one of the 4. Thanks for posting, I’m a huge Beatles fan.
Edit: Apparently it is a combination 1978 vocals and 1998 studio recordings.
