Update. I decided to give this one more go around. I have some unfiltered pipes I really like but alas I like the effect of AC filters.
This time I put just a little activated charcol in the bottom of the bowl near the draft hole. Then I covered it with a couple layers of meer chips. This gets pretty close to what a filter does and you dont light up the charcol and ruin the taste of your tobacco.
