It turns out that I have yet another friend to thank! Dave ( @Ahi Ka ), a dear brother, my favorite Kiwi, and a most excellent fellow with whom I've enjoyed a number of pipe and tobacco trades, knowing of my Hodgkin's / chemotherapy situation, and knowing that I've had my eye on Ropp's Vintage series (a belge in particular), just had this dropped to my door:

I am floored once more by such sacrifice and uncalled for generosity from folks I've not yet had the pleasure of getting together with in person. Thank you, Dave. You shouldn't have. You have your own difficulties these days, and your own tykes to care for. Thank you.

It's exquisite. I can't wait for the day that you can hold and smoke it yourself, Friend. The antiquity of the old French stummel, the blast, the perfect horn stem -- I've been jonesing for this for awhile. It really was the last pipe that I wanted, and it turns out to be nicer than I imagined.

I know people here can very generous. Mention you haven't tried a blend and there is 25% chance you'll get a private message offering a sample. It goes up to about 50% if it's a blend that has a high resale value because it's popular and out of production. I think if I took people up on these offers I'd have twice the cellar I have now.
