Rather than repeatedly starting new posts I hope to start a single thread where I and everyone else can post their pics and/or just good stories about enjoy a pipe in the great outdoors.

Today was La Madre Springs.

I swear there's a kid behind the plastic microwave but she wouldn't leave the car without it:

Enjoying a bowl of Capstan Gold at the springs as the inaugural bowl in my new DWF sandblasted shield/elephants foot:

Man am I glad I got this particular pipe! It smoked beautifully. I folded a whole flake in half, rolled it up, twisted it back and forth a little to slightly break it up, stuffed it folded edge first into the pipe, balled up another quarter of a flake which I rubbed out really well and placed on top of the other flake. It took about 3-4 tries to get it properly lit but it was fantastic after that. As I made it through the rubbed out part and into the full flake the flavors just sang and the sweetness was just perfect. This pipe is going to be a flake smoking machine! Thank you @doug535 !

This guy and his buddy serenaded us:

Someone didn't want to get back into her pack after we dried and changed her so alternate transport was arraigned:

We probably shouldn't have let her play in the water but it was easier than not.

A couple of parting shots:

Alright now let's see your pics and/or hear your stories!

(I'll post next week's adventures when we go adventuring.)

Forgot to mention, this pipe is just plain comfy too hold. If you relax your hand and look straight down at it you'll see it actually forms a "C" or "D" shape instead of an O or circle. If you look from the side you'll see your fingers curve in from the pointer to the pinky.

The shield fits the C perfectly and the finger curve follows the elephant foot curve perfectly making the pipe not only super comfortable but also harder to accidentally drop:

Today I went hiking in the hills of Moneglia, a small town about 50 kmIMG_20210322_140156.jpg east of the city of Genoa:

Do you see the bush with white flowers visible in these pictures? You got it ... that's “erica arborea”, in other words briar... I'd say 70% of the vegetation you see in those hills is briar...

In the last two pictures, at the base of the trunk you see the ryzhome, that is where the wood of our beloved pipes come from... those are still quite small, they still need some 20/30 years to reach an adequate size.

Finally a good bowl of Caporal in my bamboo cob:

My favorite outdoor pipe smoking haunts include moose camp, the Knik river by my current house, my in laws deck, the top of Bodenburg Butte, Hunter Creek, and lately most often the build site for our new house on the Matanuska River. They are pictured in that order as follows:

We chose Middle Oak Creek today. I chose the same DWF pipe with Capstan Gold as last week. It's just a wonderful pipe and the military mount allows me to break the pipe down while still warm if need be and hike back.

Hiking in:

A little oasis in the desert:

Enjoying my pipe and some Cognac:

Lots of these guys around:

All that being carried around can be really tiring:

I travel around Alaska taking photos and I usually have a pipe or cigarette going while working. I work solo so there are very few shots of me. I won't flood the thread with my work as I fear theft of my property. I do enjoy seeing the shots folks usually take when recreating so, this should be an oft visited thread for me.
I’ve seen photos where the photographer’s name is lightly embedded (correct word?) all across his/her photos. I don’t know how much protection that provides the owner.

Athens, Greece
Past weekend was the first, after a long time, with less restrictions related to the Covid lockdown. So, on Sunday, we were allowed to make a short trip outside Athens, to a place we like to go - it's called "Porto Germeno". I was beautiful. Good weather, green fields, hills and mountains, spring flowers, the sea, an ancient castle and some Amphora Full in the Falcon... at the beach! Nice, really nice.
