I've enjoyed this since I bought it back in the late 60's.

[For some reason the quote function was missing, but now it shows.]
Anyhoo, those are gorgeous pipes, Mr. Sable.... is the one on right briar?

I have the exact same pipe, probably also purchased in the 70's. Cool but short smoke, I have been useing it a lot more lately. Good for sitting in front of the TV, I rarely take it outside.
Here are my Pioneer meers. Both are from the early 1970's. I have not smoked the calabash in about 20 years. Not sure why, just haven't.

I always enjoy seeing the big gourd pipes, but they are a bit large to handle, don't really clench, and need a rack to set them down. But admirable objects, and a fine smoke I hear. I love the shape and have one briar calabash shape pipe that is a handy pipe to own.

The big ones are clumsy and a bit of a pain, but totally worth it. A good calabash can outsmoke any other pipe, never gets hot, and tames the harshest tobacco. I love them. On the down side, the gourd is so absorbent that it can get ghosted by certain aromatics in a way that may be impossible to ever correct. That makes buying estate calabashes tricky in my experience.
