@Briar Lee and I both have D. I think he has D154B and C
@Tate is the serial number i213. And the Roman numerals. 25? thats strange.
From what I’ve read- no.D is bowl size.
It’s Marxman 400 number 213.
The Roman numerals mean the buyer has 25 pipes, stamped after the sale.
@Briar Lee and I both have D. I think he has D154
From what I’ve read- no.
My 400 is as big as they get. It is stamped B. There are no bigger 400s.
Yes, it’s bore is nearly an inch.Not the husk of briar around it, the hole drilled in the bowl.
What is the diameter of the bowl?
A D is at least .880”.
I don't know I have ones that are stamped C but have smaller bowls than the Bs. I also have an A that has the same size bowl as the Bs.
I enjoy a good story just as much as anyone, but eh, no, the judge has rules you out of order.Until I’m convinced otherwise D is for bowl size.
I think the name 400 came from the 400 grams of 14K sheet gold Marx bought for the experiment.
Let’s wait for my next one, to be delivered this morning.
@Briar Lee , in talking with the Rev. the 400 was made well into the 1000s. While most 400s are big chunks, not so all of them. The serial number has two parts. The letter designation is denotes which run. The letter destination is the number in the series. Marx never advertised he only made 400. Remember, he was a marketing genius.
The stock of 400s we just bought came from just one shop in Omaha, Nebraska.He’s likely right.
Never argue with a preacher with 14 $25 70 year old pipes.
How many wives dod he have?
None killed him before he retired in Arizona, so he’s made it almost to the finish line.
