Is there any?
I got myself a meer recently. An unsmoked estate manx meer, that is, so african meer with Nørdings N on the stem.
I think all flavors seem muted in it, and there is some kind of soapy quality to it.
It's the first meer I've smoked, so in this regard I'm a newbie.
Do meers have a flavor?

It’s normal. Sometimes they taste like a seashell.

once you’ve smoked it enough it will get heavy with tar and lose that flavor. But yes, every one I’ve owned has a specific taste when new. Often like a funky oceanic scent.

My experience, although only with Turkish Meers, is that they frequently do have a funky taste for a period of time. Sometimes it is a salty, swampy low tide sort of taste which is really unpleasant. I have had a couple which were so bad that i just could not do it. The moments of pipesmoking are so fleeting that i hate to waste the time. It has been suggested by others that the off flavor is caused by the Beeswax dip which many meers receive and that, in time , it will burn off. Perhaps so, but it can be difficult to get through.

Keep smoking

+2 - I noticed a big difference after about a dozen or so bowls when new, which wasn't necessary with my estate Meer. My Altinay really muted the flavors when new and underwhelmed me, and it's an amazing smoker now.

Mind you I only have three meers or Meer-lined pipes so take it what that's worth.
