Well, maybe it is just me but I've noticed that whenever something becomes federalized (taken over and run by the government, like banks), the first thing I always notice is that things often get stupid and the people often rude. Now, the tobacco retailers have not gotten rude at all, but having bought a lot of bulk tobacco recently, both hand measured by the retailer (give me 8 ounces, please!) and by the "new system" of pre-measured, pre-packaged bags and containers, I am seeing a pattern develop---
For instance, I had several bags of tobaccos on hand simultaneously, some bought in the "pre" packaging and post that were supposed to be the same weight. In every case I checked, the "pre" packages were generous--- the order filler filled the bags up until they were at least at weight and usually a bit over (called generosity and being in a hurry), while every one of the "new" packages are dead balls on. If you bought 16 ounces, you can pretty much bet it is 16.00 ounces.
Bottom line: in some cases, the difference was enough that I could feel the difference in my hand! It would seem that the first casualty of the new Deeming Laws is that you will be getting what you pay for, which will be less than what you often /used/ to get. Put another way, fewer happy mistakes--- the cost of tobacco has just (indirectly) gone up.
Gone are the days of just throwing the stuff in the bag like the friendly corner grocer, one must be careful of weighing properly now so as not to arouse the angry FDA gods who will probably check that shit and probably wrote fines and limits on mis-measure.
