Not really.
I just turn it upside down after each hour and it burns splendid.
Ashes don’t affect the taste, only the burning strength due to lack of oxygen. At 1,5 inch chamber diameter, lack of air is never an issue here.

Oh no, it required tons of expertise that I don’t have.
From finding the block of briar (JT Cooke) to finding the silver ring (a British napkins holder from 1946) to bending the vulcanite stem, to inserting the silver triangle logo, to keeping the proportions.
