The Laudisi rep was kind enough to respond to my inquiry about unfinished Savenelli pipes, which are

indeed being phased out, at least for the time being. Here's what he said:
It is true - the unfinished pipes are being slowly phased out for now. Most of the lower-end Savinelli pipes are being shifted over to the Rossi lines, to keep the branding consistent, and I believe there will be another unfinished line available through Rossi in the next year or two.

Thank you to Jonathan Turner and Laudisi for providing this useful information. So, if you want to purchase an unfinished Savenelli and have a good

selection, now is the time, at P&L, SP, or Cup O Joes, among other places, presumably. I'm enjoying my 35-year old now-finished (but once unfinished)

Sav's, and am looking forward to developing that same golden tone on my new one. foggy, great history on that unfinished pipe of yours. I have a friend

who has at least one treasured Wilkes, and remembers the pipe shop well, a composer who lives in Queens.

Just as a clencher-clincher, so to speak, I think unfinished pipes are a unique experience that every pipe smoker ought to

enjoy. These pipes are often inexpensive, but most have quality briar (with fills here and there). They give you a perspective

on what constitutes quality in pipes, and ends up being a handsome smoke in most cases. It's a bit like a corn cob pipe in a way,

but can have an even longer life. An experience not to be missed. The unfinished pipe doesn't have to be a Savenelli; that's just a

good one that has specialized in unfinished pipes over the years.
