I love that two of the reactions to those pics so far are "wows" LOL. She had a sort of inexplicable expression in both of those photos...I'm not sure how to interpret them myself. She's an unusual and amazing creature in many ways.
The things we make them put up with sometimes. Lol. Let’s say she wasn’t a big fan of her Hallowe’en costume.
Sounds really cool! I watched a different show about how domestic dogs are the descendants of wolves that may have been weaker and relied on scavenging to supplement their diet. Spending time around the outskirts of human settlements led to the increasing relationship and eventual domestication of dogs.Did anyone catch the 60 Minutes a couple weeks ago called "Survival of the Friendliest"? It counters the argument of survival of the fittest. Dogs may have developed a gene that made them more friendly, seeking companionship with humans to survive. What's just as interesting is that the gene they located that explains this friendliness is also in humans. It's a shared gene that is exemplified in a human developmental disability. It's complicated. I won't do it justice trying to explain it. More great stuff about the shared history of humans and dogs.
Hahaha! That reminds me of the local pet grooming place that was offering "lion cut" for cats. The things we make them put up with sometimes. Lol. Let’s say she wasn’t a big fan of her Hallowe’en costume.
All dogs are dogs but there's no such thing as a fish.Equal parts entertaining and scary is realizing that all dogs are the same species, from teacup Chihuahuas to English Mastiffs.
That's a size range around 50 to 1. (More than 300 to 1 for the "record" smallest and largest examples)
Nothing else like it in nature. Many species of birds, for example, are difficult to tell apart without close inspection.
Meaning a pug dog wearing a clown hat has more in common with a seven-foot-long Irish Wolfhound than these two identical-looking birds do:
Scientists find two identical-looking bird species have very different genes
While reports of species going extinct are sadly becoming common, an international team of scientists has identified a new species of bird living on the Southern coast of China, that diverged from their Northern relatives around half a million years ago.phys.org
Oh yeah... what defines a species? They can reproduce. (don't think about that too much though, or your brain will hurt)
And this guy Darwin jumped over in the opposite direction. I mean, it balances the equation. Many years ago I heard or read somewhere there is supposedly a Native American creation myth (don't recall which tribe) which states when God was creating a gulf to separate man from the animals the dog jumped over at the last moment to be with man.
