Which types of non-aromatic tobaccos tend to ghost a pipe. Perique, Oriental , etc. For example, would using one pipe for Capstan Blue, Gold, and OGS be a safe bet?

Those are Lakelands, right? I'm too scared to try one since so many people hate them and say they taste like soap and are so notorious for ghosting. Plus my state doesn't allow online pipe tobacco sales, has outrageous taxes for it, and I don't live near a pipe shop. When I get the rare opportunity to visit a pipe shop no way am I taking a gamble on Lakelands
Take the gamble! Gawith et al produce some great tobaccos. Read jiminks reviews and buy ones you fancy. Full Virginia Flake is loved by do many.

I keep a few pipes exclusively for Aromatics, otherwise it's free and open to all pipes for all tobaccos......I never feel that I am getting any ghosting if I go from an English to a Virginia based tobacco!
Anyway with all the Blends out there how will remember the pipe/ tobacco mix junction ,not to mention the expense!

I have a shit ton of pipes and I smoke what I want in whichever one I want whenever I want. I've yet to experience the ghost of tobacco past that bothers me so much that I won't do it. Just smoke it more and it goes away.

I smoke latakia out of specific pipes, but that's as far as it usually gets with me. I have a Kaywoodie that I love that I only smoke 1Q out of, but at this point its more of an experiment to see what happens when you only smoke one blend out of one pipe for an extended period of time. At some point I'll smoke 1Q out of a different pipe to see if it still tastes as good, and I'll try something else in the 1Q pipe to see what happens, because it is for sure ghosted with 1Q goodness.

I dedicate pipes to genres and have a dozen or so dedicated to blends. I like it this way. HH Burley Flake has 3 pipes dedicated to it lol

For the most part I smoke whatever in whatever. But I like Latakia and don’t mind if I taste a bit of lat along with a Virginia. I smoke Lakeland's in meerschaum which limits any ghosting. If I smoked Exotic Passion (horrible stuff) or something similar it would be in a dedicated pipe.

Mostly I don't dedicate pipes. But I do have one reserved for ennerdale flake (now that does ghost!). And one for 1792 flake . Both of which haunt with a vengeance .
Very smart move on your part. I smoke my Ennerdale Flake in a cob. I definitely don't want those Lakeland ghosts haunting my other pipes. ;)

I have a savinelli 673 and a MM Legend.
Unless you have more pipes it seems like a discussion of dedicating a pipe to a certain blend is a bit premature, unless of course you only smoke two blends.

Whether you'll be able to detect the remnants of a previous tobacco is a question you'll have to answer for yourself, along with whether the effect is good or bad. If you want to go the dedication route MM's are an inexpensive way to grow your pipe collection while simultaneously trying new blends. As an aside, I generally dedicate pipes to a genre, not a blend, but even on that, I'm fairly flexible.

I also find that the flavour improves with repeated use. So ghosting is not all bad

I can't remember where I heard it first, but I like the term "seasoning" (like seasoning a cast iron pan) for the beneficial side of the phenomenon. That's why it's such a good idea to smoke a few bowls of a new blend in a row, in the same pipe. You're not just covering up the remnants of previous blends, but reinforcing the flavors of the new blend as you go. 👍

Thanks for the reply! Yea, looking back, I should've rephrased my post to mean genres and not specific blends. I do have a MM in addition to a couple more on the way!

Seasoning! That's exactly it!
