Finally picked up a tub of the (now warning label free) DR Carter Hall! I'm glad I did. It smells to me like chewing tobacco with a bourbon tang, and the leaf seems of higher quality than the pouches I had. Very nice, indeed. This mixed with 5 bros or PA will be my every day smoke. While different than the pouches I think I may like it a little better, but I only have a little bit left to compare and it was from the bottom of the pouch where the taste starts to go a bit yucky....

I have a small Cellar with flakes and more premium blends but I honestly haven't felt like fooling with dry time etc, so just been smoking my otc burley happily.

After spending a bit of time with the Dominican Carter Hall, I do notice a slight chemical taste probably from the topping. Flashes off halfway thru the bowl tho. JimInks noted this in his review so I guess it's not my taster. I am enjoying it but I wonder if it needs some airing out time. Didn't notice it with Prince Albert tho and a year of age really helped.

To follow up after spending more time with the Dominican Carter Hall, I place a few Oz in glass containers with a plastic top to smoke on (so I don't have to open the tub every time) and I'm noticing after airing out some it's starting to smoke much better. The weird taste is going away. The tub does have quite a nice aroma, there is the definite tang of bourbon. I've read quite a few folks say PA and CH need to air out for a while to start really smoking their best.

See now that's interesting. I bought a tub of Chatham Manor hoping I'd find my new favorite!

Hated it. Every single bit of it was terrible to me. So maybe I prefer a small amount of chemicals, but not too much? Hahaha
Wen Chatham Manor first came out it was only available in tubs. I reluctantly bought one and instantly regretted it. It was a hot mess. The worst tongue bite I've ever had. It literally fried my whole mouth. I gifted it to someone and they loved it.

There may be thousands of other blends...but it still annoys when it's my favourite that's gone. St. Bruno is back, but only name. I understand how you feel.

It still boggles the mind that PA, of all blends, had a similar treatment. Respect to the Danes for keeping the quality of SWR and Granger.
I'm a huge fan of Bruno, but now I'm curious!

How long ago would you say St Bruno changed? What are the differences?
