I lack a few countries, but have pipes from many of the major pipe-producing countries.

I have U.S.A., England/UK, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, Greece, and France. I don't have Canada,

The Netherlands, Japan, Czech Republic, China, Russia, and Turkey (Meerschaum).

What countries do you lack? For that matter, what countries did I leave out? I'm

counting UK as including Scotland until they vote and do or do not establish independence.

There are individual carvers who are in various countries, but let's only mention those

that have at least a small pipe industry, not just a few gifted carvers. I think of

Romania and Hungary in that category -- correct me if I'm wrong.

Russia, Latvia, Ireland, UK, Canada, US, Denmark, Turkey, and Germany. I have a Hilson calabash as well, not sure if it was made in Belgium or Turkey.

sergemoat, you remind me, I also lack Germany, which is certainly a major pipe-making country.

Was Hilson also in Holland at one time? The industry is uniquely cosmopolitan. The French company

Jobey was in the U.S. for a few years. Does Latvia make a substantial number of pipes? I didn't know that.

MSO I think you left out Poland & Africa. Mr. Brog & Kiko being the two that come to mind.
I can't find an Australian factory pipe company oddly enough.
My collection is all over the place. I have a soft spot for stray unloved things. Pipes and dogs especially.

Hey mso489 ... Hilson was in Holland pre-1980 before being acquired by Gubbels who also makes Big Ben pipes.
I just picked up two of the 60's/70's pipes and will post pics when they arrive.

I should have remembered Mr. Brog in Poland; are there any other volume pipe makers there?

Africa is completely off my radar, so if someone could do an educational post on that, with

information on the pipes and their venders, that would be truly interesting. Thanks for the

info on Hilson; many of those pipes seem to be rescues of carved bowls that were never finished.

Must be perfectly aged by now. In think the international aspect of pipe making is one of the

engaging parts of tobacco pipes. I associate Israel only with high-end carvers; do they manufacture

any "machine" pipes? This fascinates me, so I apologize if I am like a border collie on the subject.

Shalom was out of Israel. I know they made Alphas and I think Mastersen. I've heard good things about Alphas and you used to be able to get them fairly cheap as estates.
