I would like to smoke more Condor, but the price is steep. Has it always been this expensive? But UK taxes hit the other UK plugs like McQuaid and St. Bruno and Walnut the same. As a remedy, I only smoke a bowl a day in a cob, but given that the plug naturally reduces to several layer thick, even the pieces I load take awhile to burn, so that means an hour's smoke for me.
Does anyone know about the oddities of manufacture and distribution? I read that the loose cut is made in Spain and can't be sold in Ireland. Why would they possibly make the loose cut in a different location? You can't tell me that when the Japanese bought Gallaher that they didn't get a press and slicer, and as they make the plug in Ireland, why not the flake?
Finally, why limit availability to the UK and continent? Condor has a big reputation and following. Why not start up the blinky ads on pipesmagazine, for instance, and get a US distributor? That they are plug crazy in the UK doesn't mean that the the ready rub and loose cut wouldn't sell here. There's money to be made, and as corporations are godless entities given to the rapacious chase of money, why don't they agreeably chase it here?
I'm sure that I'm overlooking something.
