Was a big PiL fan back in the day, got to see them live in an astounding show at the Pasadena Convention Center with Savage Republic opening up, this would have been November 1982. I believe Levene was still performing with the group at that point.
Some time later, I recognized him sitting alone in a late night eatery in LA called Gorky's. I was a little gob struck and didn't know what else to say other than to confirm who he was and say hello, to which he politely responded with a rather weary 'yes, hello' back. I think I gave him a thumbs up and he smiled.
The next time I saw PiL, maybe a year later, it was just Lydon with some lame pickup band he was traveling with. They totally sucked, and it was one of the only shows in 40 years of concert going that I ever walked out on.
Rest in peace, Mr. Levene!
