I understand and I'm not going to try and change your mind, after all, I'm not trying to sell you one. I can tell you this, I own and smoke many of both brands. For English blends the Castello winds hands down. For aromatics I like the Savinelli filter pipes. Justifying the price is a personal thing.I can buy a handful of Savinellis for the same price as one Castello, so that's where I'l stay. It's really hard to justify spending 400$ on a small block of wood with a couple holes drilled in it.
I'm sure they are a great pipe, but holy hell that is a tough concept to wrap my head around.
Well, no one bit on this post. I though I would have some fun and pull a sneakie-peekie on you guys. Actually, it's not a Castello, I made it in my work shop!I would be interested in what you guys think of this pipe. Thanks
Button shaping on newer Ashtons is even worseI have several Castellos, they are all good smokers. I especially like the Sea Rock finish. OTOH their buttons need some help.
That's absolutely beautiful. Wow!Here's a Castello Opera shape. She's only 4.25" long with thin walls. Weighs almost nothing and the carving shows why the decided to call it Sea Rock. It's so sharp it feels like coral. Register and stamped 1948. Unsmoked.View attachment 105227
I have some of their petite apple billiards. Great, sturdy little pipes. They don't make as much of a statement as Castello's othe pipes.
It's odd because Castello prides itself on being seen visually, be in for a pipe's size or the sea rock rustication.
Very nice indeed. ThanksView attachment 121543
They all measure 125mm in length. Some are more billiard-like, some more pot-like, and some more apple-like.
