Crap, and I left out our new admin, Python. Actually, I don't know anything about him, so I am afraid to make any jokes. It's like having a new guy working the counter at the cigar shop/biker hang out. I want to make a joke about his neck tattoo, but I also suspect that he may have a loved one in prison that he wouldn't mind rejoining.
I kid, I kid... really... please don't kill me. puffy

With a lovely name like Python, he must either be a fan of snakes, or... yeh... nevermind. Don't kill me. puffy

Lemme see, the gold rush of new members, the continuing variety of membership, the geographical width of membership, the addition of a few women on board, and a general reportage of pipe news (see cosmic's post above). And of course, echoing earlier posts, the site upgrade. It was a good year here on Forums.

I don't know man.. I'm still not putting water in my pipes.
A lot of them will lose stain on the bowl IMO.. and no I'm not talking about petersons lol..
Any pipe with a satin finish if you wipe it with water will usually lose stain.

man I wish I knew half of this shit you guys are talking about.

The absolutely beautiful part of pipesmoking, is that you don't have to. People have smoked pipes for centuries without having done so.
But, it works for me, with none of the forewarned doom or gloom of the worst things happening. I've never had stain come off with water. But, if that is a worry, you may worry to your heart's content. That is freedom.

Why all the damned Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia avatars? Did these guys join thinking this was another kind of pipe thing?

I'm looking forward to 2020.

I resemble that remark. Everyone liked Garcia. He crosses a whole bunch of genres from blue-grass, to blues, to jazz, to the Dead.

My other option would be something related to Ohio State. The problem is that Ohio State tends to get the Southerners (sic SEC) worked up.

I happen to think that the Shit Dust thread was hysterical.

The other thread of note was the PH thread.

If stain comes off with contact with water, it'll be coming off with just handling. And you also don't need to let water contact the exterior. (Removing stain from the chamber is a good thing.... :) )

And what was the Shit Dust thread?

I resemble that remark.
So do a lot of other members. I am not denigrating the Dead, as much as wondering why defining yourself with a musical group on a pipe forum.

What did your name used to be on here? I think it must have changed with the reformat. Or, am I losing my memory that quickly?

Was the shitdust thread this year? And, is the Frank thread still around. I'd like to read it.

absolutely true!

Bari pipes often are this way with stain.. there are many others.
Some will not be affected and others will... it depends on how they are finished too.
If sealed with shellac before wax buff it won't come off.. if only carnauba wax is used, water can still penetrate it.

I missed the Frank thread, I just went back to read it - what a mess that was.

Okay, I gotta check that out. I hibernate into cigars during summer.

Link? ... Bah, I’ll see if I can track it down. I can’t imagine a good old fashioned forum war over using the Frank method... this oughta be good lol

I disagree... again... but, the beautiful part is that you are free to disagree too. Maybe your experiences with stains coming off through a layer of carnuba had some other factors going also. But, my experiences with water and my pipes, and I have some very fine pipes, some with no wax at all, were all very positive, and I am not as careful as John is with getting water on the outside.
I don't have any Baris, so I will just take your word on it.

Warning, tangent:

Are you aware of the Greatful Dead CIA connection? That’s some interesting reading. Seriously.

No dogpiling me dangit. I told y’all it was a tangent. Okay now I’m mad. Where is Frank?
