I am mostly the same way. I really don't often smoke my pipe till I've been up a while. I tend to prefer snuff more first thing. It's more uplifting and stimulating. Also I feel like a pipe deserves attention I don't have till the coffee is working its self through my blood stream.I’m an outlier. My morning pipe is at 11:30 after I’ve been up and about since 5:30. 50+ years of smoking a pipe and I still can’t think about lighting one until then.

C’mon manNothing like a pipe and a cup of instant international coffee
Oh my gosh thanks for the nostalgia trigger (you can trigger good memories too). The tins were awesome. I remember as a kid every single household seemed to have between one and three of them that almost never got used, until certain guests showed up at least. The ads made the stuff looks fancy and even as a kid that seemed suspect. If you are old enough to know what international instant coffee is then you know and appreciate Starbucks and dunkin
You re-introduced me to Sir John's Flake Virginia. Has been my morning smoke ever since. Thank you my friend! My first smoke of the day is normally my favorite. A pipe, a cup of coffee and some peace and quiet, can’t be beat in my book. My go-to tobacco is almost always Sir John’s Flake Virginia…what’s yours?
4 AM. Damn man. You oughta be hoping for retirement.Work days start around 4 AM. I don’t smoke until I get home in the afternoon. It’s chewing tobacco during that time. Weekends I’ll have my first pipe in the morning. Weekdays or weekends, the first pipe is usually Elizabethan Mixture or something very close to it.
With the exception of the last couple of weeks my days are pretty much the same. However, I do start a cup of coffee and a pipe with whatever was left from the night before on the way to the clinic (across the yard) and finish them both while making "the early morning rounds".Unfortunately I dont usually get a morning pipe. I get up between 3am-3:15am naturally, haven't used an alarm in two decades.
Then my mind is racing with my morning activities. No time to relax, not yet. Lives are on the line!!.....not really, but that's the way my mind works. I walk through the clinic kennel to make sure all is well. There is someone there 24/7, but that's just how I am. Then off to take detailed and specialized care of our livestock.......mucking stalls.
Check everyone's water, give meds where needed, and do a head count.
Then back to the clinic for actual, money making work. Check the chart, start prepping for surgery, then dig in....so to say.
All that just to say, my morning pipe comes about 2pm usually. If it's a slow morning, maybe 10-11am.
THEN my day starts. I need to clean up and face actual people in public, and be somewhat presentable.....a few days a week anyways.
I'm well over that age and spent 20+ years drinking chow hall coffee and there is nothing that can make me appreciate a cup of Starbucks coffee. Do like some of the sweet rolls they sell though.instant coffee is then you know and appreciate Starbucks
I’m home by 2pm so it’s not too bad, but yes, retirement will be welcome.4 AM. Damn man. You oughta be hoping for retirement.![]()
