Lodge an appeal with @gawithhoggarth

But don't stop my supply!
It is most likely whomever is buying to distribute that isn’t buying enough. I’m not 100% sure GH gets to just send whatever they want over. I may be wrong, but other things that are imported usually works that way. Plus, seems like I’ve seen GH post something along these lines.

I’ve always thought some c&d blends have that odor because they don’t give the components time to marry before shipping it out. I have recreated the smell, not intentionally, by blending their dark and white burley with perique. The odor intensifies when you add a bit of Turkish and Latakia—but I’ve always blamed the smell rightly or wrongly on some initial reaction between burleys and perique. Anyway, within a few months or even weeks after blending that reaction ends and the barnyard scent fades

I usually don't mind the smell, because it does dissipate, as I said above, but it is curious. About a year ago, I ordered a pound of Hearth and Home's Anniversary Cake, and it was NOT anything like what I had ordered 10-15 years ago. It did not have that baked goods, pastry smell... it smelled so much like manure that my wife made me toss it, which was ok with me, because I couldn't bring myself to touch it, much less smoke it. It was way worse than the usual C&D manure smell. Some have said that their recent buys of Annie Cake didn't have that smell, so... I have no idea...

But, I would like to point out that it is NOT in all of their blends. Just some. I assumed it was the burley and perique combination also, because I do not smell it in their Virginia blends, or straight up burleys.

If I ever get the chance to talk to @jeremyreeves I would like to ask him about it. I think he once came on a thread years ago to talk about this, but I can't remember what the definitive answer was. But, as I said, it doesn't deter me from enjoying these blends.

Thanks to all for the replies. The post was meant to be funny but I do actually like that funkiness BN had. I thought I'd heard somewhere that perique interactions can create some funk, so it's interesting that some have mentioned it here. I don't get any flavor at all when smoking perique straight.

I'm making a list of all the recommendations. Should be a fun time "digging through" the options, as it were.

It's probably the interplay of latakia and perique as bayou night has alot of perique. It could have Turkish in it as well, as American cigarettes have an unpleasant smell to most who don't smoke American cigarettes, much like manure everyone says

Haha...it would be nice to just send whatever we want and make our lives much easier but no, we produce to order, what the distributor wants (so long as we are able to).

What’s your take on it? I’ve never tried it, myself. Does it live up to its name? Does it have the brown note?
I'd like to be definitive but it's been over 3 years and I don't take notes. It might have even been 5 years. I want to say yes, but I might be influenced by all the written verbiage about it that indicates it's got that smell. It was atypical to me in a pleasant way and I've got a few tins getting good age on them now.
