Just went through a sample of Kendal Flake, I love it, will definitely be ordering a 500 gram box. It's very lemony citrus taste and that's about it. I'm pretty sure it's a component of El Ricon de La Pipa #1 as it has that same lemony taste, but it's a secret recipe so I can't say for sure, but would make an educated guess. It's a very mild Va when moist and then if it's a bit drier there's more of a kick to it. It was too mild for me at first actually, then when it dried a big I found myself loving it.
I used to hate beer and whisky too.
Somebody gave me 10oz of Sam Gawith Cannon Plug but I just can't get on with it. The essence is too much and the flavouring - while good to taste - struggles to get past the Lakeland for me. YMMV. I'm going to keep going with the 2oz I've sliced, cubed, dried and rubbed but the rest is FREE to a good home. Please PM me if you want some - I'll divide it equally so if there's only one, you get the lot!

I LOVE Cannon Plug, very hard to find, though.
I also think SG Virginias have a specific taste. I could probably correctly identify SG in blind taste 100 out of 100 times.
Now, if you want some off the wall flavor, skip Grousemoor and try SG's Balkan flake. Haha, that will put chest on your hair!

I do very much like Dark Flake Scented though.
My major gripe with the Lakeland essence is that it seems to be applied topically on the baccy, instead of saturated innit --- like with Condor and St Bruno etc the topping is actually drenched into the baccy --- many of the Lakelands give me that "hairspray coating" sensation which I don't enjoy at all.
I greatly dislike the florals.
This old post goes into some theories of mine about how the Gawith scents might be closely related to traditional snuff profiles and all sorta other junk also...

I recently bought a sample of several bulk McClelland flake/cake offerings. One was #5115 Old World Classic Cake. I was really surprised at the pouch note, so I decided to look it up here:

A few of those who reviewed it mentioned Lakeland, and I was surprised. Although not strictly a Lakeland, since it is made by McClelland, based on the pouch note alone, I would have just guessed aromatic cake. I didn't get any perfume, flower, or soap. Maybe it will be more apparent when smoked. I haven't tried it yet. The pouch note reminded me of citrus candy, but was not strong. I would put it more towards the mid to subtle range. And I could still smell the virginias.
Anyway, reading the reviews made me weary of it, but if I like how it smells (like VA with subtle-ish citrus topping), I'll give it a go.

I wouldn't say Old world classic cake has a lakeland essence. To me I didn't even know it has a topping until I went and checked and it does. I always found it to be really zesty and thought it was just the matured va's, but it does have a topping in fact. I find it to have kind of a tea taste to it. I love it, it's one of McC's most overlooked Va's I think.
I wish I could like the Lakeland essence because the prices on the GH pounds is a hell of a deal. I tried a number of them a couple of years ago but could not get into them. The first one I tried was GH Rum Flake, then Ennerdale Flake and then SG Firedance and it was a no go. I do smoke three SG flakes all of which have no essence.
