My family and I buy antique things including japanese made items are overlooked by many but not us. Smaller items like knifes and clockwork and pottery is mostly what we find. Generally very well made.
My son and I restore vintage shop equipment (and other things) and 50's (+or - a decade) era drill presses, band saws and table saws are what we have worked on. We have respect for machines that can be repaired. Not too many idiot proof safeties on those, but they rarely break.
Old US made kit, and Japanese as well, are shop worthy.

No small feat, I've worked with BIG equipment, mainly water pumps, and vibration is a hard thing to control.
