Congrats, Senior! ;) That might be one of my favorite things about the pipe community. There's a common ground that keeps opposing views from turning normally civil people into animals.

Cheers Code and runic. I have to say, I have my pipe groups on Facebook, but those are more for pipe porn. There is one I am truly a member of, but there is drama there as well. This is where I come for conversation, sharing, and learning. The social media groups always fall into a trap, whereas this Forum is fairly pure and unadulterated, usually.

Congrats Crash, I think you may have kicked the hornets nest by denigrating the almighty cob! They, (cobs) are useful to have around, to try out new blends that may be haunted.

I'm no fan of cobs. I only have one and I fully intend to stick it in the snowman we make with our son this year. I then will throw it in the Christmas decorations box to break out every subsequent winter as long as it holds up to the weather (assuming it holds up one winter at all). The empty space on my pipe rack will let me get another briar!

I'm offended. I have twice as many corn cobs as I do briars. :puffy:

But no, I still don't like corncob pipes. I'm sorry.
That's alright ... you aren't expected to understand them until the much lauded, purple "Preferred" Status.
Congrats and hope to see you stick around!

Not everyone understands the pleasure of smoking a Cob. Some like Briars, some like Meershaums, some like Briars and Meershaums. Then there are those who smoke and enjoy Briars, Meershaums and the lowly Cob.

Congrats and glad you're here.
You're in Ny right?
Also I only have one cob and I don't really smoke it. I prefer briars.

Ha, thanks all. Maybe with the next status I'll acquire the taste for cobs. I genuinely have no problem with them, I was just surprised at how much love there is for cobs in this forum.

fitzy, I am in upstate NY. Out in the country where it is peaceful. Where in NY are you?

Great area for a kid to grow up in. Cold like a well digger's ass, though! I've lived in the desert for so long now, a winter back there would probably kill me.

It was a wonderful area to be raised. The desert has most likely removed your ability to survive this wonderful weather, though. I don't think I could last a day in the desert. I was in Vegas once, when it was "cold" there. I still barely survived. Large quantities of alcohol, I learned, did not keep you hydrated in the desert.

Sadly, nothing really keeps you hydrated in the desert! There's more than a grain of truth in the old west stereotype of the wrinkly, leathery, desiccated old "desert rat" prospectors.
