I just ordered a can of tobacco from a place in San Marcos, TX that cost $32 and they charged me over $16 in Texas tobacco tax. Jeeze Louisez!

Governments lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve "sin taxes".

And note that Texas has had Republican governors for the past 16 years - something I mention only to reinforce the point that this is not a Democrat/Republican issue. They'll all nail ya. :puffpipe:

It's gotten sobad here that my favorite old B&M decided to go 100% the cigar route. These guys have been here forever and they just can't compete anymore with online stores. Pipe tobacco is taxed higher than cigars. Shucks :x

Good cigars cost too much, and bad cigars are crap.
Drug/ Convenience store cigars really are awful. Borderline un-smoke-able garbage for the most part. I'm convinced that they pretty much cater to the "empty and roll whacky" crowd. I cant imagine tainting my beloved briars with a Garcia Vega from a plastic tube. Your better off driving to the nearest free state, and loading up on pibe tobac.

I don't buy tins in Texas because of the TAX. Bulk blends only. Total Crap.
Sending my money to other states when I should be supporting TEXAS.

I think it was Sam Houston that said "When the Texas Legeslature is in session, no man's purse or honor is safe!)

Hopefully they won't do to out of state online tobacco shops what they did to liquor retailers. The Texas state government contacted a shitton of internet liqour stores (such as drinkupny.com where I used to buy absinthe) and told them not to ship to Texas anymore. As far as I know they all complied. Texas loves to keep its "sin tax" money inside state borders. I don't know if they will do that to tobacco shops or if those shops will comply. I would guess they would have to mutually agree, since you can't enforce State law outside its borders and shipping interstate is federal jurisdiction. I'm no expert on that, though.

+1 on what Spartan said !
Although since sep 2011, I believe the tax bracket is the same at $1.16 / ounce? Most cigars run at $7.50 to $1.50 per thousand. I guess those state legislators are all cigar smokers
