I'm not sure if I am posting under the right heading or not, if not forgive my ignorance.

I'm seeing name brand pipes with Tender Box stamped on it i.e. Vauen Tender Box, Eric Nording Tender Box etc... Is Tender Box a company that buys name brand 2nd's or it this a style of pipe carving.

Sounds like I'm an idiot I know but I don't know and the only way to find out is ask.

"Ed Kolpin, Jr., opened a small tobacco, pipe, and cigar store in Santa Monica, the Tinder Box, in 1928. Later it moved to its current location in 1948 where it began serving the many Hollywood celebrities living nearby. Part of the attraction were the famous pipes handmade by Kolpin himself. In 1959 Kolpin began a tobacco-store franchise, at first locally and then by the mid-1960s there were Tinder Box stores in malls across America. The franchise business was sold in the 1970s, but Kolpin still owns and operates the original store as of 2003."

Very cool.
Maybe half of why I got into pipe smoking was because of a Tinder Box in the mall in my home town.
I’ll never forget that aroma.

Edit:
Upon further research I learned that the original store closed in 2017. Too bad.

Ed passed away several years ago and the Santa Monica store on Wilshire Boulevard has since been demolished.

There's still one in Costa Mesa that's hanging on. Great bunch of guys there and they get some pretty interesting estate pipes in from time to time.
The Tinder Box franchise in Mishawaka, IN changed names to “Heff’s Place” a number of years ago, and they still have a few jars of pipe tobacco blends from before the change. I can’t vouch for just how fresh or smokable the tobacco in those jars remains at this point.

Yeah, it's sad. The one in OC has a decent tobacco selection, the standard STG and C&D tins and lane bulk you'd expect, but once and awhile some UK stuff. I recommend people stop by if they're in the area. I bought a couple Castellos from them and have my eye on an estate Dunhill if it's still there in a couple of months.

This was my experience as well. puffy
I have a Tinder Box stamped pipe; it is an excellent quality Italian made pipe. I have a second pipe from the same maker; Amonelli, I think, I'd have to look at it to get the spelling correct.
