UPDATE!!!! Fantastic news!!!! I just discovered I have two large jars of bulk Vintage Syrian hiding in a closet I had forgotten about. No need to open a tin for quite some time it seems. I'll happily be opening a jar later tonight.
This is awesome! Can’t wait till my cellar reaches the “forgot i had this” stage. Enjoy!

The flipside to this is I also today discovered I did NOT have much of another favorite blend (Hearth & Home Black House) which seems to have fallen prey to the STG/Sutliff apocalypse and won't be able to order more. I thought I had more.

I don't know, man. That stuff seems pretty old. Because I'm such a selfless guy, if you sent that to me I'd properly dispose of it. I'd have to incinerate it in small amounts, a couple grams at a time but I'd be happy to help. 🤔

But seriously, enjoy it.

I have only been back smoking pipes since 2018. So I hardly have any tobacco with more than 4-5 years of age.

But I have been buying and cellaring wine since I started work in 1976.
Increasingly as I dig out old and (?)treasured bottles the feeling is not "I'm glad I resisted opening this 5 or 10 or 20 years ago" but "damn, this would have been better a few/some years ago" :(

Old does not necessarily equate to better

Enjoy what you have NOW, rather than have regrets later
Happy puffy

You could always wait for the afterlife to smoke it! Enjoy it. I do like to share older, rare, and/or discounted blends with others to share the experience. I try not to worry about blends disappearing, if they’re gone what can I do about it? I’ll find something to smoke. I stock up on what I like and tomorrow be damned.

I'm also torn on whether to open certain tins or not. The obvious, I bought them to smoke, but once I smoke them, then they're gone for good. Which makes it hard. I also have a bunch of tobacco's in mason jars to smoke from already, so I don't want to add more mason jars to the tobacco cabinet. Usually, I'll smoke through several jars before I think about opening a new tin. The discontinued blends I do have open I smoke from sparingly (i.e. McClelland - Christmas Cheer), and when I do smoke them I make sure I sit back and enjoy.

When the news broke that the Sutliff and Mac Baren blends would be discontinued, I went through my tobacco cellar to verify what I had on hand, and then I went out and bought a few blends I wanted to have a few more tins of. Just so I could have those blends to enjoy for a little bit longer.
