Who else, concerning lost blends, struggles to decide whether or not to open a tin of of a blend you greatly enjoy even if you have multiple? Help me out folks. Crack one open? Or save for another day? How do you decide? Who else has tins of something you truly love, but hesitate to open because once they're all gone they're gone forever? In this age of disappearing blends, how do you cope? How do you adjust? What similar blends do you purchase as a compromise?1000000361.jpg

No point keeping them and not smoking them. However, I do typically save very interesting things to share with friends. And very old blends, that may have faded or be disappointing, I'm even more likely to share with friends, to at least get something out of the experience!

I have a couple of tins of Vintage Syrian left, and I will smoke them at some point. I'm lucky; I like aged Latakia blends. But I will still try to smoke these ones up before they fade.

Think of it this way - you won't be able to replace it exactly, but you need to replace it with something if you don't smoke it, and you need to replace it with something if you do smoke it.

If you're in the mood for it I say crack it open and enjoy, especially if you have other tins to save for a later date. I do get saving it for another day, but us mere mortals don't know how many of those we have in front of us. I have a few unopened tins, and the way I decide is just if I crave it I'll open it. If I happen to outlive any tobacco stash I'll be glad for that.

Solid points everyone. I probably will open a tin of this later for after dinner and jar it after a pipefull or two. I could admit to myself that it's highly unlikely I'll run out of it any time soon as there are so many other blends I enjoy, but there's the other side of me that considers it precious.... like some weird magical ring I can't bring myself to get rid of 😉

Good idea. I have several blends that are unreplaceable and always have one open. How fast you consume that jar is up to you. But at least you have it cracked for now and whenever else the mood strikes. Opening a tin, by no means, makes it gone. I have stuff that i cracked years ago, still jarred, smoking slowly on occasion. Enjoy it while you still can...it is, after all, what this fine leaf is for. :)

I'm late to this thread (and congratulations on finding those two jars), but I'd like to add one more thought: No man owns tomorrow. If you don't smoke it when you want to, you might not get the chance to revisit that decision. Whoever handles your estate will get to decide what happens to it. So if you've got it and you want to smoke it, I always advise going for it.
