Well here's another update. The whole ink issue has died down and most of the people here have started ignoring the rule again. That's pretty typical of this place. Selective enforcement of policy. I and my director are staying covered up because ours are the most prominent so better safe than sorry.
He got told 2 weeks ago that his position was being eliminated and was given an opportunity to compete for a regional position, but it was just a formality as they had already picked their guy. Now what's going on here is typical of a restructure. They are telling us in meetings to go about our business and quietly laying people off every week or just finding stupid reasons to terminate people. We had one other person go Friday and one this morning.
It's difficult to go in to a job every day with a good attitude knowing that your job performance means nothing and you are just a number. I'm not known for being Mister Sunshine anyway. I just keep telling myself, dude you have a job and lots of people don't so enjoy the paycheck while you can still get one.
On the bright side, I do have a semi-plan B. There is a Funeral Home up north that will give me on-call work if I move up there. It's not enough to quit and relocate but it is a good contingency for getting my foot in the door and is more than most people have right now.

I'm glad to hear you have a b plan. I just interviewed at cracker barrel for a cooking job and was told I got it. Unfortunately it isn't what I wanted to do after completing a four year degree in marketing but it is better than having nothing as you said.

There's lots of guys who can't even get that! Cooking is hard, but it's honest work and once you're in that scene you can get shifts at other places to fill in time.

Yeah I have experience cooking at Outback but it is one of the reasons I went to college. I hate it with a passion. Gotta do what you gotta do though.

I did it for one summer and I learned fast that working in a kitchen is not something I ever want to do again.
I did gain respect for the skill, hard work, and presence of mind required to be a half decent cook, though.
Anyone working in a kitchen whether you are a chef or a dishwasher will earn their wages IMO.

That's the kind of gig I'm hoping to land right now. I've always worked best in situations like that. I'm still in shape, maybe I could get the wife to let me go back to bouncing at a bar. Maybe not.

Speed reading sucks. I read that you were going to send your wife out to her old job, bouncing at a bar. My kind of woman....

Baron: I'm retired now but I was a New York City hospital administrator for ten years. I supervised the chief engineer as well as most every other department in a 254 bed urban teaching community hospital. I can tell you that anyone with common sense knows that a competent maintenance employee especially one that has been with the organization for three years is a man to keep. Many good hard working men have tatoos and that is not a reason to downsize. Apparently they are just looking for a reason to get rid of people, maybe to get higher paid people replaced with lower paid ones. My advice is to contact neighboring hospitals and inquire about a "change of venue". Believe me when I say the tatoo is not the problem. Light up a large bowl, dust off the old resume and never doubt your competence or your ability to perform on a job. I've also done police work. I can tell you that most every cop who wears short sleeved summer uniforms has at least one tatoo and many show. Being manly is having a tatoo, a beard and stache, smoking a pipe and a cigar and taking care of ones family and business. Don't ever feel the need to cover up manhood brother. Celebrate it!

Baron, I have tattoos and work in the corporate world.
When I meet with other companies and whatnot, i use tat jackets
you can google it, i think the website is www.tatjackets.com
they are like underarmour, but just sleeves, they stay in place great and come in many colors.
They breathe VERY well, I live in texas too and would shoot myself before wearing a real long sleeve.

I've been wearing the underarmor heat gear and it's pretty tolerable. Odds are I'm going to be run out of this job one way or the other so I'm not investing any more in it.

Gotcha, sorry to hear that...
I will probably keep my sleeves throughout the years just in case they are needed...

Ditto. As you can see, you can be at a job for 3 years and it suddenly becomes an issue.
When I worked in an office I just wore a long-sleeved dress shirt and tie and when doing Funeral stuff, the public never sees you without your coat so it's actually less of an issue in that sort of a gig.
The funny thing is I once worked at a place where I did special order sales and I looked like hammered shit most of the time, because I was still in my partying days. I also did double the sales of the next best sales person. One reason is people would come in and ask for the long-hair with all the tattoos.

My wife's arms are covered from the backs of her hands to her shoulders. And I mean covered, no more room for anything. She also has a chest piece and her ribs and back have work too. She is a nurse. If she weren't really good at her job, she wouldn't get hired on anywhere. She has been turned down at all of the major hospitals here in Dayton entirely because of her tattoo's, not because of her degree and exceptional work history. It is HELL trying to get a job in Dayton with tattoo's.

Most hospitals in Texas are that way, too, especially regarding clinical staff. The few that let nursing staff work with tattoos are places where it's hard to get people, like psych hospitals.
