Since summer began I've noticed that my sense of taste has changed immediately after smoking, and remains diminished for a day or two afterwards. This happens whatever I smoke. I have tried drying out the tobacco more and less, smoking inside and outside, drinking water, coffee, or tea, and a variety of other things, all to no avail.
The tobaccos in question are SG Commonwealth and SG Squadron Leader; I used to smoke these without any trouble in June, and this started happening in July. It sometimes also happens when I smoke Toscano Anticos, which I have, until now, smoked regularly for years without any problems. I'm at a loss as to what is causing this - could it be an effect of air conditioning?

What is the environmental allergen/air quality situation where you live? That could have an effect as well.

Not familiar with the strength of those blends that you are smoking, but I know what you mean.
I always, right after smoking, as my pipe is still cooling off, brush me teeth and tongue. Gets most of that tobacco flavor out of my mouth. I like smoking, but hate the after taste. I bring along a small travel toothbrush/toothpaste when I'm away from home, driving, on the job. Bathrooms are everywhere. I find this quick "maintenance" helps greatly....however, sense-of-taste/taste buds can be affected by the tobaccos you're smoking. Most guys just learn to deal with it. : )
