Several years ago, I took my wife and daughter to the Arizona and the Punchbowl Cemetary on the way to Kona. My daughter was a teenager, and I never expected the emotional outpouring at the Punchbowl - hard to say which of us was crying the hardest.
As far as the Arizona, my daughter had a great time flirting the the seaman on the way out, and I thought WWIII was going to break out when she saw all the smiling Japanese. Thank God they didn't play TAPS, I couldn't have taken it.

It is a freakin fickle thing, and as you get older, it doesn't get any easier IMHO.
True. I'm often asked by parents if their children should pursue a career in music. I always tell them, "if you absolutely can't imagine doing anything else, then yes; otherwise, go into a profession that will let you make enough money to keep playing for the love of it."
I didn't mean to hijack this thread...

I live directly on the other side of the fence line to our local Air Force base. I get to hear Reveille, Retreat, the National Anthem, and then Taps everyday. It's great!
