Hello,

I recently found this tamper in a ww1 scrap pile on a old abandoned farm in Flanders. Anybody here who can tell more about it? Origins, material, age,…? Not interested in the value, only in the history. Thnx in advance.

Considering the size of the base, it could be an old wax seal stamp.

The bottom is definitely ferrous, tops a little small but could be a corkscrew

Yup. Found a lot of these type of design ones. Most of them dating 1600-1800’s. That’s why I immediately assumed this was one too.

Just don't clean it, if you ever want to sell or trade it as an antique. Coins, jewelry, etc... the number one mistake people make is removing the patina, which gut punches the value way down.
