I just don't bother to put them in to start with when I get a filter pipe.
I had my first go with it earlier today. Indeed you can get a tongue bite even with it. I realized it in the very first minutes of the smoke and slowed down puffing right away. I have the feeling that not only it will be a great smoker, but also a great teacher. As always, it’s about your perception of the experience but I think that system pipe is going to have to be smoked with well dried tobacco and also very slowly without a filter.
A filter can cover poor technique, and I think it can also enhance the experience with tar removal and drier smoke.
I get better taste and experience with a charcoal (not paper) filter. Your mileage will certainly vary.
Btw, you’re going to love that Peterson. Petersons and Grabow’s are always my best smokers.
Let us know what you think. Paper does nothing for me really other than keep the gurgle away, but I really like activated charcoal.I'm getting my first Filter Pipe today, exited to see if I can tell the difference. Thanks for the informational thread!
I've smoked two bowls so far with it (Molina / Bent Apple with 9mm filter). I've like it so far. I was afraid it would make it harder to "sip" but so far its been good. I didn't notice a huge difference with flavor. But it's only a few bowls. But early review is thumbs upLet us know what you think.
