I dont use filters, but why would you not change them every bowl. They cost nothing in the scheme of things
Some people believe in throwing everything away. I dont like waste. Its why Im not broke.

I tend to smoke smaller bowls. My first use is for lighter blends, the second use for heavy or lat blends. Afer the first use they are only slightly discolored.

Even the manufacturers recommend 2 or 3 uses before replacing.

Yeah, I had a 9mm pipe previously, an S. Bang that snapped apart at the shank due to I suspect excess moisture build up from not removing the filter after it was used. I suspect the pipe had an unseen fault that the moist filter exposed.
More likely a default in the pipe design or manufacture or stress from banging out ash ... the filter doesn't concentrate that much moisture to rot a pipe.

Sometimes I leave it in for a couple bowls. I love the taste of charcoal filters though. They get a strange sweet flavor to me.

so are you telling me that people go to the trouble of removing the filter to clean the stem and draft hole then replace the used one back?
i personal cant see the point of that,or do they just let them sit and fester until the next bowl later that day/ tomorrow/next week.
They may not be soaked but will certainly be damp.
As i said they are cheap

I try not to waste things, but if I am broke over the cost of a filter then something is definitely wrong with my lifestyle;)

My tobacco is not that wet but the filters are damp. I have a spot in my office where I keep stuff.

I open the pipe, pull out a filter and set it by the tobacco. In a day or two I use I reuse it for a heavier belnd.
No 10 cents wont break me but after one smoke its far from shot

Im my lifetime Ive known a lot of people who extend the 10 cents wont break me to a dollar, to 10 dollars and onwards. They had little or nothing to show for it other than debt and lived with their nose to the grindstone. Its just not in my nature to trash something still servicable.

I worked too hard most of my life to throw it away. I retired (but still do some work from my home shop) at 53.
There is an old saying "If you watch the nickles and dimes the dollars will take care of themselves".

I got rid of all my 9mm pipes and buy only unfiltered pipes but I used to use a new filter every time. A used filter affected the taste dramatically for me but maybe it's just me.
I do have a couple of 6 mm cobs though and I toss the paper filter after each use. Temu has some very cheap filters of all diameters but I have no idea about the quality. But I think they are better than nothing at all.
I did try their pipe cleaners though and they are fine.

I toss the filter (9mm) after every smoke. It greatly affects the second smoke. I have also tried unfiltered in a pipe that had a stinger (removed it), and I got me a hell of a bite. I will try filterless again with a Peterson System coming my way.
As always, it’s about your perception of the experience but I think that system pipe is going to have to be smoked with well dried tobacco and also very slowly without a filter.

A filter can cover poor technique, and I think it can also enhance the experience with tar removal and drier smoke.

I get better taste and experience with a charcoal (not paper) filter. Your mileage will certainly vary.

Btw, you’re going to love that Peterson. Petersons and Grabow’s are always my best smokers.

I love using a 9mm filter. The best bit is not getting bits of baccy in my mouth on the first draw.
The filter shouldn’t do any damage to your pipe, but do let it cool before removing the filter. I take out a filter and let it dry out and use it again; I sometimes get three uses out of the same filter.
