Historically I've always been a little indifferent on English blends, but for some reason I've just been craving Latakia like nobody's business lately! Outside of Presbyterian Mixture I don't have any Latakia containing blends around at the moment though, and seeing as how I've always enjoyed Gawith's offerings but have never smoked any of their English blends before I decided to put in an order for a tin of each of Sammy G's three core English blends to give them a try. puffy

I’m right with you. I usually don’t smoke english blends but I’ll go through short periods where that’s all I want. Especially if the Virginia is aged and sweet.

I ordered a couple ounces of Lane BCA to try. Thought I read that if you liked RLP6, that BCA was better. Nope. I tend toward mild tobacco without a lot of N, but I think that takes it a bit too far... I mixed a 30%ish pinch of Maestro Puccini in to see if that would.. 1. Wake the BCA up and 2. Put the Puccini to sleep. It was kinda ok. I think both will just stay jarred.

This doesn't count, but I had another snuff delivery.

15g Sir Walter Scott's Fifty Fifty
15g Sir Walter Scott's St James Parish Blend
25g Gawith & Hoggarth Cafe Regal
15g Samuel Gawith Firedance
4x 4.4g McChrystal's Jip

The SWS is not just a brand name - it's actually blended by the current Baronet, as an artisanal hobby I suppose. Very old school indeed.

The easy ones are Jip, a menthol blast that clears the sinuses, and Cafe Regal, a dark espresso with a nic hit - the tin is from December, quite fresh, as opposed to the tap box I already have dated February last year. I expect the tin to relax and become creamier as the ammonia lifts.

The difficult one is the Fifty Fifty, the high dry toasted VaPer which has an incredibly up front but complex and unusual scent. Every time I try to label it, I have to throw the label away and start over. Nutmeg and scorched coffee bean, dark chocolate, a faint hint of sandalwood, freshly sawn planks, musk, the belfrey of a 900 year old Norman church, a fresh burial in the churchyard... Nope. It also insists that you blow your nose and get rid of any young upstarts and pretenders, it must rule. And increases in power outdoors. Solid nicotine. Moreish.

Finally got the chance to visit Kremer's in Louisville, a 110-year-old pipe shop that's been on my list for a while. It didn't disappoint! Grabbed some goods.

Evening Rise was recommended by a friend with broad tastes who said he can't quite describe it. That has my interest piqued.

Hal O' The Wynd has been suggested by several people who know my tastes, and will be my first foray into Rattray blends.

I bought the Latakia Flake because I'm going through a tin of McConnell's Original Oriental right now and it's fantastic. Let's see what else they can do! Latakia, DFK, and cavendish sounds like a wild mix.

...and I got The Beast because that blend of tobaccos also sounds interesting, and Brian Doran says it may be the best tobacco he's ever had. He's a big fan of perique and I'm trying to get a better understanding of it. IMG_20250524_181125_01.jpg

Just a wee TAD. A cutter, 3x tins of Sansepolcro, and a tin of Quiet Nights. I read so many nice things about it I had to have a tin. Oddly, I lean a bit more English in summer. All winter I wanted aromatics or Virginias. Please forgive my messy tobacco table.
