Today my personal pipe tobacco holy grail showed up in the mail! No, it's not Stonehaven (though I would still like to try that one), nor is it a McClelland blend or the original Balkan Sobranie. It's a humble little pouch of Middleton's Cherry Blend, from the last production run in 2020 and still sealed, so it's as fresh a batch as I could ever hope to get ahold of.
Middleton Cherry is a special tobacco for me, since it was the first pipe tobacco I ever smoked when I first tried a pipe back in the late 90's, but by the time I really got into pipe smoking about 3 years ago it had already been discontinued so I never had the chance to try it again. Well, now I can!
I've already cracked open the pouch and the tobacco inside is still fairly moist and fresh, and while the pouch aroma is a touch muted compared to what I remember (5 years of age will do that to an aromatic) it's still got that same elusive smell that my nose has associated with pipe tobacco for decades; and smelling it again really put a smile on my face. I'm gonna toss it in a Ball jar overnight and give it a try first thing tomorrow morning after breakfast!

So, I've been dealing with a bit here. I have some depression in my elbow and have been a biit down in the dumps. My wife said I need a vacation, which i cannot afford. Besides, it would be no fun without her anyway. There is just a bunch of health stuff with my dad, my kid (who is waaay to fucking young to have health stuff), and myself to deal with. Moving to the boonies of TN has been magical, but I cannot find steady work, which is a source of constant (and deep) vexation. So I talked to her about a stay cation. We set a budget and I found blends I wanted to add to my cellar. I am really going to miss H&H blends. So I got 2 tubs of Chatham manor, 1 tin of white knight and 16 oz of 10 to midnight, Virginia Spice, and Anniversary Kake. While there i also got 10 Bengal Slices, 10 plum Pudding, 5 Mac Baren Vanilla Flake, and 5 MM 150th Anniversary. Sutliff, 1lb: Black Vanilla Cavendish, Black Cordial, Black Cavendish, Spiced Rum, and Chocolate Supreme. I then slid from P&C to SP.com where I got 2lb Mixture 79 (SO glad i found this before it was gone...) and 1lb of BS759 Match. I know some of these are slated for 'retention', but after the move who knows wtf they will taste like. Since I'm not likely to get any tobacco now for the foreseeable future, I slid in 8 oz Crooner and 4 oz Habana Daydream.

A like for the tobacco haul, but not so much the depressing crap. I hope that gets better for you. If it's any consolation, at least we're one day closer to spring. The days are visibly getting longer too.
Santa arrived late but better than not at all.
It was supposed to be 10 tins of 23 cringle, but I got 9 and a tin of #2 crumble cake.
