Best brown and Reiner long golden come to mind first.
Damn I forgot to suggest Long golden flake too. Now I want to open my tin of best brown flake, I'm on a sweet mood too and never tried it yet!

Not necessarily the sweetest, but OGS gets my vote for being the brightest and grassiest. It's got a real "zing" to it that I just love. I've been trying several blends trying to find something even brighter and grassier but with no real luck so far. Like Cosmic, I detect no perique or burley or any of the other things that people may claim is in it.

I spent the summer smoking mostly home mixed burley with various amts of what have you, and when D&R Bulks went on sale and I hadn't tried any, I jumped on some of their VA blends, as well as some others. At the time, the sails weren't available, so I can't comment on Wind Sail or the other one with Sail in its name.

PenHooker and Athey are the two I brought in and they're both interesting changes from burley smokes.

If you enjoy Perique, the Rimboche line is what you might like. S.J. seems slightly less tangy than the A.P. but both are comprised of typically excellent quality leaf, including their VA components.

I haven't really delved into my C&D Yorktown much yet.

I did find that I enjoyed the Newminster 400. It's a flake with a nice, lightly sweet topping.

has a bit of Oriental wang to it
Hmm, definitely going to stay away from that one!
I find myself veering away from overly sweet tobaccos, as my palate seems to prefer less flavored/topped blends. CVP I recently traded away my stash of as it was overly sweet/topped. Gatsby Luxury Flake if I recall correctly was pretty sweet. Haven't smoked it in a bit but just recently popped a tin, letting it air a bit before I revisit.

Mac Baren Virginia No. 1 I know it is topped but they all are . Sillem's Mayor 1814 Flake hands down the best darn Virginia flake . Rattray Black Virginia over looked a Virginia based Cavendish that is black as tar and sweet as molasses .

After smoking a ton of English Blends I returned to my old favorite; Sweet Virginia. Boswell's "Dan's Blend" is a great sweet Virginia that is a nice all day smoke. I also just tried Milan Tobacco's "Diplomat." First bowl was last night and it was a very nice smoke.

Okay, here we go... those that were in stock anyways. If any of these suck I'm blaming you and you can bet your ass you'll receive a firmly worded letter saying as much :)

Lately I've found myself craving the sweetest of Virginias. I really love the sweet, grassy, hay like tastes. I love Dunhill Flake...
I'm a Dunhill guy and smoked a lot of their Flake, but never found anything I could call sweetness. It and other straight VA flakes taste bland and one-note to me, as I imagine a cigarette would taste (if puffed for taste, not dragged for a nic nit). I do not however, love "grassy, haylike tastes", perhaps oweing to the fact I'm not an equine. I much prefer DNR. That to me has sweetness, and a rich fullness no straight, un-cased/untopped VA flake has. It has just the right amount of Perique to add a fruity flavor without making it spicy as if you sprinkled black pepper on your tongue.

Dark Star ... I wonder why they don't pulverize it a little bit at the blending workshop. People enjoy the blend a lot, but it is by no means ready to smoke, I hear. Is it worth buying a spice grinder or can you break it up in a bowl with a tamper, or mortar and pestle? Or just rub it out a little extra?

Tried the first one, fribourg & treyer cut virginia plug. No wonder it's so difficult to find. It's a more full bodied/flavorful version of Dunhill Flake. I wonder if the soon to be released Dunhill Dark Flake will be similar. This is wicked good stuff and def what I was looking for. Terrific, I needed another beloved, impossible to locate tobacco.

Yeah I've only recently developed an odd and random fascination for fountain pens, seemingly out of nowhere. It's very, very odd.

I have tried a lot of VA flakes and the one I like the best, the one I keep going back to again and again is Dunhill Flake. It's just delicious. If this stuff was harder to obtain we would see all kinds of hype surrounding it. It really doesn't get any better than this.

No wonder it's so difficult to find. It's a more full bodied/flavorful version of Dunhill Flake.

You'll come back around to Dunhill... this is the natural progression of a pipe smoker. :nana:

Nice pens!

Nothing to really add. Awaiting a shipment.
Anyone have anything to say about Wessex Gold Slice? It has little so far as reviews, but sounds interesting. Anyone?
