Sadly it seems easier to use a fully automatic flame thrower or a Javelin missile to light your GMO super high test weed in a glass pipe than to sensibly and easily use a ruddy stick match to light your - gasp - Virginia blend in a classic British pipe.

Ugh.

Safety matches. Ugh.

The lizards failed. The talking monkeys are failing. The microbes and roaches are up next. Good luck to you, ya rotten little bastards. Just don’t take up the pipe.

Ugh.

oh no we have to use a special strip to light our matches. I have to wonder how much people complained when they switched away from white phosphorus to red because of the horrible things it did to the people who worked in the factories. Yeah I liked those matches but it's not like I have not found a reasonable replacement that works basically as well and is significantly safer to ship and harder for some little brat to set a house on fire with.
Wait I've lost more decent products that have made a real effect on my life because of concerns of profit then I have over safety regulations. Seesh I can't help but say this is the most eye rolling over reactions I've seen in a while. That said it really was fun seeing all the things you could light them off of and I had the best aim with Swans over any other match. Aim? As in flicking the lit match at my friends. :)
Seriously though is anyones style really cramped over having to use the box to light your matches?
P.S. I do dig you guys but we're looking a bit silly at the moment.

I merely pointed out the fact that they are now safety matches and should be out there. I have 6 boxes but prefer to use a bic lighter.

I just want some Swan Vestas! I don’t actually care if they spontaneously combust every other Tuesday evening or if they can only be struck on the bony ridges of an aardvark’s armored asshole. I want my Swan matches dammit. ?

I don't even remember which members started sounding a bit silly on this one. Just had to point out on the whole no swans isn't the biggest deal in the world.
I think you were missing their point. (or maybe not)
The tyrants who think they're smarter than everyone else and need to "fix the world safe for us" are out of control and it's beyond annoying.
Each little step in itself is no big deal, but a wise person watches the direction we're headed.
Otherwise freedom is totally lost and nearly impossible to regain.
It's not about "matches", not at all.

Style cramped? Yes. The piccolo doesn’t flutter in the background when I strike on the box.

When I was in the UK, Vestas for as long as I could remember had the 'By Appointment to Her Majesty' royal warrant seal of approval for that product.

Recently though, I regrettably bought a pack and noticed the royal seal has been omitted. Frankly, they were poor quality matches so I'm not surprised if old queenie doesn't use them anymore.

A friend sent me this picture which really sums up the whole situation in the U.K. When I was a lad we used to make our own explosives, build rockets and apple cannons, if that was done today I would have a social worker on my doorstep!!

Blame it on the lawyers. If parents could get off with a fine of tuppence instead of being dragged off to Wakefield just because "junior" was a little the worse for wear after having gone through the familiy's wood chipper we wouldn't have to deal with any of this.

They are the worst matches I have ever used and I recommend that no one should waste their money on them. I bought a box and would check then year after year. Finally they lost their ability to light at all.

Don't be suck a weenie get your IM Corona Old Boy and you will be glad you did. I have yet to see a post where someone said their Old Boy sucked. That is going on 20 years now.

If you choose to ignore my advice, to get an Old Boy for less than 100.00 bucks. Now buck up and make sure you tell them who sent you. I value my 10 %.

I had a decent supply of the older style that never failed but having used the newer ones I am less impressed. TBH they are a pain to light and take multiple strikes. I do still like that they don’t reek of sulfur and don’t burn like a cheap firework fuse but they don’t compare favorably to the old ones that’s for sure.

I still use my old boy style lighter but greatly prefer lighting my pipes with a stick match. The initial light just seems so much better and it’s quite satisfying to smoke a pipe this way. Of course I still like fiddling with plugs, ropes and flakes, so there’s probably just something wrong with me, lol.

I do still use a lighter when I’m outdoors and if the weather is nasty I’ll resort to a zippo because it always lights, but it’s not my preference by a long shot.
