I had one too many drinks last night and broke my STG ban and bought a couple tins, big 100 gram, on sale at SP.com of Orlik Golden sliced, for aging, whoops wasnt thinking oh well…. A nice all around Virginia I’ve enjoyed before and have stashed, and I’ve heard the big tins contain long ribbons instead of flakes, haven’t tried,.. I’m back to my boycott today.

For people who like Nightcap and dont know, Gawith Commonwealth mixture is a virtual match, 50% strong lat with good Va sweetness…. Probably the same Lat, tastes like it, but could be wrong.
It’s ok. I was sober and bought from P&C last night……
20% off site wide and I was out of Peterson early morning.

Still waiting my other order from P&C but I’m sure it’s on its way here…….. tracking said it bypassed my state and went to Texas further away from my shipping address.

Not for that much longer. As costs are going up prices are going up. You might want to grab them now as those prices will seem like bargains.

American pipe smokers pay less for their blends than just about any other country on earth are are the least grateful for it.

Think $20 a tin is a lot for a blend with higher quality components? When was the last time you could commission and build a 2400 sqft home on a half acre in a desirable neighborhood for $30,000?
This is somewhat of a privileged comment im about to make i know because some folks are retired and or are on a fixed budget but..... everyone always talks about buy now prices are going to go up "its never going to be cheaper than today". We'll my wages are never going to be lower than today. I work in a skilled trade and my wages keep up with inflation at least. Im more worried about things going away than price increases because wages rise with inflation if what you contribute to society is valuable.

Glad to hear im not the only one that the post office sees fit to take my package past me a few states and circle back.

Of course, what one contributes to society may become less valuable if a cheaper way to duplicate that skill, or a “good enough” attitude gets adopted. I’ve seen that happen.

Highly unlikely, @Brad H. You'll most likely get what you ordered. I've had emails like that from P&C that indicated I'd end up with 16lbs of a blend... I only got the 16oz I ordered and paid for, sadly.
Yeah. This is not the first time I have seen an order like this. Usually end up what I ordered minus a tin or two.

Sunbear is supposed to arrive today from P&C….. so we shall see how P&C quality control is.

Sutliff was profitable. Sales were good. That wasn’t the issue. STG is interested only in efficiency, more money with less effort.
They are only interested in high volume sellers. They cherry picked the few blends that fit their metric and discarded the rest while removing competition.
Exactly. Sutliff was wholly owned by MacBaren, and Sutliff’s sales and profits were not reported separately. In STG’s release announcing its purchase of both companies it noted Mac Baren’s annual revenues (which included Sutliff) through April 2024 were $103.84 million with an EBITDA—a measure of profits—of $12.21 million.

STG paid about $76.5 million for both and apparently that $12 million in profits was not the reason. Small potatoes to STG.

Ever smoke Hearth and Home, Watch City, Wilke, Country Squire, Strauss, or many other blender's products? They were made with Sutliff tobacco.
For sure. You can tell just by how much moisture is in the tobacco. Half the weight in water and chemicals. I’m excited to see what the blenders do with the natural uncased leaf from C&D. I never ordered much before because they all used Sutliff.

The only ones that could work with Sutliff leaf and make it their own was Peretti.

Well I’m certainly glad for you that C&D tobacco doesn’t have any “chemicals” or water in it.

Evidently you didn’t smoke Hearth & Home. Russ tinned his blends at a lower moisture level so they would be ready to smoke when opened.
