I happened across Mixture 79 Cherry Brandy at WV Smokeshop. I remember seeing an old magazine ad for it years ago, but I didn’t think it was still produced. It may be that what WVSS is old stock.

There are a few reviews at Tobacco Reviews. Tongue bite looks to be a potential problem. I have not had much trouble with the original Mixture 79. I am, however, often sensitive to bitey blends.

Has anyone here smoked this version of Mixture 79? I would love to hear some more opinions.

I have come across this too and considered buying a tub. But I thought to contact them before just to make sure it's not an old defunct listing that just hasn't been taken down; I haven't done so. I bought a pouch decades ago and still have it though what's left over is dry as a bone. From what I remember the cherry flavor was not overbearing and darker in character. It's nothing like these bright and fruity cherry blends. It's more akin to the old Middleton's Cherry Blend but different of course. Mixture 79 is a bit different today than it was decades ago. It was a heavier aromatic and the cut was a mix of rubbed out cake that range from some thicker chunks to almost coarse snuff grind. I think that made it burn hot and likewise the Cherry Brandy version. If it is really old stock I would be concerned about how it has fermented over the decades; Aromatics can turn out rather unpleasant. I still would like to try some again.

Seems like of they deviated from the original recipe, it would be Mixture 80, or whatever number that new mix is.
Even thought Old Number 7 is the most popular recipe for Jack Daniels, they will still release an Old Number 3 recipe or other number every now and then. Or at least take the Old Number 7 off of their rye or triple mash. Seems odd to have a Mixture 79, but different.
