Well, that's news! Please provide a cite or two- with URL. I sure hope that's right!
I'm feeling less confident as I attempt to repeat the search today,
I'm finding a few sources but none that are really credible... They could be parroting some false-advertizing from a decade ago, I can't be sure.

Searching `how does lampe berger work` gives some results that mention ozone creation
Searching `"lampe berger" "ozone"` gives results that have me questioning.

Short version:
  • I'm thinking that the info I saw may have been the result of false advertising that continues in a word-of-mouth sales model.
  • Another possibility is that Lampe Berger doesn't want to advertise ozone as their "secret", and has attempted to remove it from messaging since ~2010 but haven't quite finished the cleanup.
  • I couldn't find any real technical data to confirm or deny.
  • In the end, I don't think I believe my previous statement. As usual, I stop with more questions than I started with.
Long version:
There is a lot of information out there, some of it might be good :)

A year ago I was looking at Lampe Berger, but I hesitated, as there is no reason to believe "this kind of candle can get rid of smells from that kind of candle". I found a few articles mentioning the production of ozone, and I was content from there.

Google searching "lampe berger" "ozone"
reports pages that must contain both phrases:
I found more people mentioning hearing about lampe berger associated with ozone generation. I keep finding the same verbiage copied to various sites. Nothing nothing credible enough to conclude that catylitic burning isoprophyl creates ozone.
I hate to use a likely-associated website as a source, since that is less trustworthy.
On the other hand, an other likely-associated website suggests the lampe as a fix against ozone pollution, which I assume is just a standard marketing blunder:
Found some references to "ozoacool" as an addative but, I didn't have enough trust in the marketing+"scientists" to follow that path very far.

I went to wikipedia, hoping to steal sources without having to search much more on my own :) The wikipedia article used to contain references (still in the history) but they have since been removed and the sources are mostly 404 not found. Over time, all references to ozone have been removed from the page.
I did a quick search to find ways ozone is generated, and it was interesting but I didn't learn anything to confirm/deny the Berger results in ozone.
I couldn't find any info easily to confirm/believe that ozone can be created by a reaction involving isoprohyl.

My Conclusion: The internet is only as good as the data put into it (lousy), and searchability.

So how is it that there are so many testimonies that the Lampe removes odors better than a candle...
  • Ozone generated, oxidizing smelly stuff away?
  • Isoprophyl aerosolized?
  • Scent only covered, and the raving believers are all deceived? (Even in this forum!?)
  • Some other "magic"?
If it is ozone, an electric ozone generator is so much cheaper now. I'd think it in Berger's best interest to keep the exact working a secret. I'm guessing this is not the case, because I'd think they have liability if they didn't specify the quantity of ozone generated.

Too bad because I just purchased a Berger burner :(
I'll try it and give it a smell. If I recall correctly, the scents of ozone (and isoprophyl) are obvious.
I'll likely get an ozone generator with a timer for the house and car, and try to only use it with my brain turned on (nobody in the room).

Wow, that is impressive research.

I've never noticed a scent of ozone after burning my lamp Berger. But it does some good, or at least I thought it did!

Thank you!

Honeywell HEPA filter machines will take smoke out of a room. We had bad air last year with forest fires, and a couple of the filter boxes running made all kinds of difference in our air quality.
