I like Jersey Mikes and Jimmy John’s over subway any day. I’m not a fan of Subways bread. It’s tough a lot of time. As for the meat…. Idk why you would serve deli subs without even having a meat slicer in house. All there meat is factory sliced then distributed. Roast beef is especially best when fresh sliced. I will eat Subway when other options are not available.

My God, Condor, I thought you were kidding. My grandfather used to say, I don't know where the hell God is, but I know where hell is, the hell I have under my feet. When he saw the injustices of everyday life, and the suffering of good people. I mean, they have no scruples about poisoning an entire society. And they have been doing it for decades. I don’t mind Subway on occasion, in a pinch, but like so many things in the modern world, it’s a snapshot of what a real deli sub can be. It serves its purpose though and is good for a light meal on a hot day.

Yeah, Subway is Subpar. Most of the meat is processed beyond recognition. A real deli, now they mostly have the same meat. Boar's Hear or Dietz and Watson.
None are with out some kind of issue.
Btw, Dietz and Watson say "no trans fats". NYC has a ban on artificial transfats. We use beef tallow shortening. I had to educate our NYC Health department inspector that the ban is on "artificial transfats". The NYC Health Department issued a 20-couple page book on the trans-fat ban. My inspector had not read it, nor understand the significance between the two (same for my Montgomery County MD Health Department, which has the most restrctive food guidelines in the state of MD). So, be careful who you trust.

I'm likely not the guy you want for a dinner companion at your favorite restaurant.

In the LA of yesteryear, we had a variety of individual subway sandwich shops, and, of course, Italian delis. Subway drove most of the independents out of business, which is a shame because some of them made spectacular subs, instead of the cookie cutter crap that Subway dishes out. There are still plenty of places in LA to get a great sub and for those of you in the Burbank Glendale area, go to Mario's Deli on Broadway and order up. You'll be glad that you did.

Fortunately, outside of traveling for pipe shows, I don't normally eat outside of my house. I also don't usually eat any deli meat. I found Subway putting turkey in all their meats really odd, and the texture was always gross. So, I just haven't eaten it ever again. That is not to say that I have any issue with someone else enjoying it, it just was not for me. And you are welcome to dine with me, at a restaurant or at home. I like hearing everything wrong with a place. Lol.

Subway's meats are a little eh for me. The veggies are usually good enough. The bread, while not my favorite, I've certainly had worse. But really at the end of the day they aren't any worse or better than any other franchise fast food place. Which is why I'm always on the hunt for a good local place.

I too have a rank order of sub shops here in central N.C. based on the particular franchises located here. This may not correspond to anyone else's experience.

Before I retired, I had a Jimmy Johns near my workplace and enjoyed that as a quick substantial lunch with pretty good sandwiches. But the one near my residence was a terrible shock. I ordered up one of the standard favorites from the other place, and they took a pre-made sandwich out of the refrigerator with dry bread and few fixings, and no moisture at all. I pretty much gave up on that chain. It was worse than not good. It was an insult. You presumed none of the servers ate that food.

I've had some good experiences at Subway, usually generous with the fillings, and satisfactory. The bread can be a little dry and flavorless.

My long-time current favorite is Jersey Mike's, which always seems to have fresher bread, fresher cold cuts, snappy service, and a good set of standard toppings called "Mike's Way" that can be modified to suit the customer. Their oil and vinegar topping gives the sandwich moisture and spice. So Jersey Mike's, at least among my local shops, is my absolute favorite.

I used to love Blimpies. There was one right across the street from my middle school, all those years ago. Haven't seen one in years.

If I do go for a sub sandwich, it's usually Subway. Ham, banana peppers, black olives, tomatoes, spinach, pepper jack cheese, that southwest chipotle mayo stuff, and of course, toast that bad boy.
Here in Santa Fe we have a blimpies stashed inside a gas station. I'm surprised it's still there lol but a gem to me good sandwiches

Management, training the staff, and supervision is everything with these chain shops. If all that isn't strong, the food quality sinks to zero.
