Ah, yes. Subways. The sub sandwich which gives crap load of veggies and set amount of meat. You get a foot long, that's two meals for a price for one sandwich. Growing up in NYC, chain store sandwich was something I didn't know about, unless we are counting hamburger as a sandwich. If you want sandwich, just go to nearest stationary, newspaper joint, or mini Mart around the corner. They have slicer and selection of breads making almost any sandwich you want. And they will spread butter on the Italian bread for you if you ask. And ton of salt. Some places had slanted grill just for the hot pastrami. But I'm in NC now. And I choose Subways over other joints. Mainly for that crap load of veggies. The meats aren't all that different wherever you go, but most places go cheap on veggies. Now, when I was in high school, I saw first chain store sandwich shop. It was Blimpie's. Used to stop by once in awhile. Good load of veggies. Jimmy John's ain't so bad. Love their bread, but meat and whatever toppings are very skimpy. Jersey Mike's.. I know a lot of people love that place, but the bread kills me. I don't want to get filled up on bread.

I used to love Blimpies. There was one right across the street from my middle school, all those years ago. Haven't seen one in years.

If I do go for a sub sandwich, it's usually Subway. Ham, banana peppers, black olives, tomatoes, spinach, pepper jack cheese, that southwest chipotle mayo stuff, and of course, toast that bad boy.

My go to Subway sandwich is the 12" Veggie Delight...no cheese, all the veggies with extra pickles and extra olives and yellow mustard.

My all time favorite sandwich is from a local family owned pizza joint. It's a toasted Italian sub filled with different kinds of Italian meats, topped with lettuce, melted mozzarella and their own creamy sauce drizzled across the top. It's served open faced and you squeeze it closed yourself to eat it. If I ever have to pick a final meal before being executed...this is it.

I avoid franchised food at all costs. I’ll go hungry rather than eat food prepared by apathetic, malicious teenagers.

I wouldn’t eat a Subway sub if you paid me and Robbie Margot or Margot Robbie, whatever her name is was blowing me at the same time. Oh, I’ll have that funky tasting weird sub roll with a gray colored meat and some disgusting vegetables there you go. In Florida we have Publix, which is a grocery chain with their own bakery, good fresh italian rolls, fresh sliced boars head meat, yada yada yada awesome subs or I’ll go to Jersey Mike’s, which is basically the same thing.

I'm in the restaurant business so, not surprisingly, I'm somewhat picky about where I eat. When I was driving 50k per year, and on the road for 2 out of 3 days. Subway was my go-two for a Veggie sub. (and, it is "Subway" not Subways...)

From a brand marketing perspective,it was interesting to see how they responded to the Jared issue from a few years ago. Their response was artful and did the job - patrons didn't blame them for Jareds problems. Be careful picking your spokesman. We had Cal Ripken for our 50th anniversary year, and the Washington Capitals during their Stanley cup run, how is that for lucky? (Cal is not without skeletons in his marital closet, but beloved enough it rarely came up)

I know my local owner, he runs a pretty good shop, and I trust his food. We have options of Jersey Mike's and Jimmy John's, but I prefer Subway.

Where the heck are you eating to avoid them? If you can't see the kitchen, you might be in for a surprise. That is one aspect of what I like about Subway, I can see most of the preparation.

The other night, I watched our local fine dining restaurant put on a class of "what not to do for food safety". The executive chef never washed his hands, and continually used the same cloth to wipe off, what were most likely clean plates. Then, their bus boy filled the bar ice with a used pickle bucket. When leaving, I told the owner,dude, buy a $50 dedicated ice bucket. Your drinks are $15 and up, you can afford it. Restaurants with very good reputations are often notoriously bad in food safety. Chains, who have to protect the reputation thru 2000 plus outlets, often provide better training and oversight.
