That can be a miss though. When the pipe warms from smoking, if the stem is very loose, the wax softens and the stummel could fall off of the stem. Permanent fixes for loose stems prevents the loss of a pipe.

I generally let the pipe sit awhile maybe (day or two) to see if that loosens things up. If it doesn't, I will put it in the refrigerator for an hour or two, That usually gets it.
