Afternoon everyone,

I was curious if anyone has ever come across a straight Deer Tongue pipe tobacco for blending or smoking straight?

I’ve done some looking online with no avail. I know there are blends out there with it in the mix ie: Crooner, but I’d like to mix and match my own Deer Tongue blend; any suggestions?

I was going to say this...I'm not positive, but pretty sure that deer tongue is in fact an herb and not a tobacco varietal.
Interesting, see, this is why I come here, to look silly and learn haha! Regardless, still awful curious where a fellow could pick it up to blend with. I think I’ll adjust my search.

Definately a herb that brings a vanillia flavouring. Well that answers that.

A few health concerns I see about potential blood thinning and liver issues; more reaearch needed.

So if it thins the blood and you are prone to heart attacks look no further; Smoke deer tongue! ?

It's like, vanilla and mint in one taste, and it's a little rough on the throat if smoked. If you had 100% deer tongue in your pipe, it would be awful, I'm sure. The old tins of Half n Half, the pocket tins from the 70s are chock-o-block with it, as is "crooner" from cornell and diehl.

So in Crooner, is it the burley or the deer tongue that makes it a little harsh? Second blend I’ve tried with burley that I found a little rough.

I’ve always heard that Half & Half contains Deertongue. If so, then I like it occasionally. I don’t know that I’ve smoked anything else that contains it.
Pretty sure Half & Half no longer has any deer tongue. Crooner, Gentleman Caller, and another blend that I cannot recall (all three made by C&D) have it.
To my tastes it is vanilla-like, but not quite vanilla, and quite a bit floral, like honeysuckle or clover. There is a touch of mint in the tin note, but I do not get any mint taste when smoking it.
