Really? Tins? I did not know this and I assumed the tin would leak over time but perhaps not. I do have a number of fresh tins sitting in the closet waiting for a day when times are not so good. Thanks for the advice. Maybe I will stockpile tins on orders and smoke the bulks instead!

I've waiting for an appropriate time and thread to ask this and this seems opportune as I have 8oz coming in the mail tomorrow(?). How does one sterilize the jar? I was thinking about giving the inside of the jar a wipe with rubbing alcohol as it will kill spores and evaporate quickly. I know that twelve pack s come pre-sterilized but I bought these ones loose from the Christmas Tree Shoppe.

I pretty much do the same thing as rothnh, except I don't have a dishwasher. I wash my jars, lids and screw tops in warm soapy water, them boil them in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes and let them air dry. So far they seem to be ok.
Now I'm wondering, Since I'm boiling the lid (the thin disc with the rubber seal) will the seal still be good, or should I go out and buy new ones? I'm more worried about it not sealing correctly than transfering flavor since these are not for long term storage??

i use ball jars for storing long and short term. i fear that plastic may have odors that may tranfer to the tobac. this may not apply to all plastic containers. i myself prefer smoking tobac on the dry side. this allows me to smoke the bowl all the way down to the bottom and with less gurgle. i think two freinds tobac is packaged in plastic containers, i do prefer glass over plastic for long term storage. so if i have several tins open, i do not worry because i like the tobac dry prior to smoking. good luck to you sir.
